Choosing Your Colors
by Stacey Little

When it comes to choosing the colors for your wedding, first you should consider the time of year in which the wedding will be held as well as the formality of the event.  A formal December wedding won’t host the colors lilac and coral very well.  Those types of colors would be better suited for spring semi-formal to casual events.

That’s not to say that you have to use the traditional colors of red and green in your December wedding either.  To be honest, etiquette doesn’t say too much about colors anymore.  Many years ago, it was considered a social blunder to use the color black in your wedding, and even though some older guests might still look negatively upon it, many brides choose the dark color for their formal nuptials.

You should choose a color that represents you and your fiancé’s personality and taste.  Today we see the use of bright bold colors without any reservations at all.  The use of bold reds, golden oranges, deep purples, and deep burgundies are being seen more and more in the wedding and event field.

Typically a bride chooses two colors to accent her event.  Be it red and gold, blue and white, teal and yellow, etc.  But as long as she uses some taste and tact, she can choose as many or as few colors as she likes.

Another hot trend is using a monochromatic theme.  By simply choosing a color and staying within that color family, you can create a chic and modern affair.  A red wedding which takes advantage of the many shades of red flowers and fabrics will make a bold statement to your guests.  And hey, who can resist the color of passion?
